A Conversation Regarding Recent Events & What Believers Can Do (Video)

Normally on Wednesday evenings I’ve been doing a Live Bible Study through Deuteronomy on our church’s Facebook page. But in light of what's been recently happening in our country, I didn't want to be insensitive to the moment. So instead of doing the bible study, I decided to open up the Facebook Live to have some conversations.

I didn’t address every event or issue, nor did I offer a plethora of actionable suggestions. I spoke to what was asked, shared, and to the sphere of people I am around online and locally. I addressed racism, law enforcement, how to talk to kids about these things, what we can do as believers, and so on.

Praying that this will be a voice of reason, fairness, and biblical wisdom in our current season and beyond.

Below are the terms I discussed for clarity sake so we all would know what is what and not mislabel people but help people to understand where they may be operating from.

  • Racism = is about hatred or discrimination or prejudice toward another person based on their ethnicity.

  • Ethno-centrism = is about favoring your own ethnicity over others, but not to the point of mistreatment of other ethnicities.

  • Racist (noun) = the habit or nature of a person operating from racism.

  • Racist (verb) = the situational actions of racism—whether done/thought/said ignorantly or intentionally—but not as a habit with all people of that ethnicity.

Here are the scripture references I read and mentioned that I said would be helpful for us during this time.

  • Titus 3:3

  • James 1:19-20

  • Romans 12:9-21; 13:8-14; 14:13-19; 15:1-7
